About Us

HISTORY OF THE SCHOOL.

Riambase DEB Secondary School began as a community school to take care of needs of the students from the locality who had to trek for long to the nearest school in 2006 as an off shoot of Riambase primary school. The school, situated in a peaceful environment in Nyamache Sub-County in Kisii County, admitted its first K.C.S.E candidates in 2008 and emerged position 10 out of the 117 schools in the former Gucha district. We, from the word go, proudly   state here that from its inception; Riambase D.E.B Secondary School has remained among the best performing schools in Kisii County, continuously emerging among the top .

Our mission has always been, instilling in our students a high standard of academic integrity, leadership and responsible citizenship. Being a newly established school, topped with our excellence, there has been an unending pressure on the school resources. To enhance our performance, the school has developed a strategic plan to help monitor performance and service delivery. Our school is currently registered as four-streamed mixed county school with a student population of 738 and 24 teachers. We are a boarding school with 7 spacious dormitories, thirteen classrooms and a multipurpose hall. We also recently acquired a neat and well equipped school bus – nicknamed THE BEAST by the students; is a great source of pride for students and staff alike.

We celebrate these milestones with humility, the constant reminder being that we are still very far from perfect, while at the same time taking pride in the relatively short time that it has taken us to arrive where we currently are. Having started with only four classrooms with no doors, no windows, unpaved floors and fifteen primary –type desks and 120 students, out of whom only 84 were regular. Offices, like a member of staff is wont to say, were rumors. Teachers would sit under a tree from where they would mark assignments and prepare lesson notes. In deed our progress is a very unlikely story since until now, we have had very little financial support if any from any source.

The school is founded on strong tenets of hard work, determination, religious nourishment and above all, excellence. With a highly motivated and youthful staff (average age being 28 years) and disciplined and enthusiastic students, surely the sky must be our limit. The ever enthusiastic Mr. Daniel Mauti Onchiri, the board of management chairperson has been one of the drivers of this gargantuan engine that is now threatening to explode beyond control in terms of population growth and physical development.   And as our motto; ‘strive for excellence’ goes, we are ardently committed to excellence in spite of the expansion; and this will continuously show in our performance and discipline.
